Staff Culture Advancement System
"When Culture is First, Success Follows"
Our Culture Advancement System is developed, and redesigned to support schools seeking to improve collegiality, improve data, and create a sustainable success culture. Ignite collaborates with your Administration and Leadership Team to identify current goals and initiatives, as well as collect data through surveys and discussions.
After analyzing the results, we create a customized action plan to institutionalize positive change.
To create consistency in actions, practices, and behaviors, there must be a binding language driving the change you wish to see throughout your building. The first critical step is creating the foundational piece that acts as an equalizer from which all practices stream from.
We partner with your leadership team to create Shared Beliefs first, and then co-develop a Staff Compact for Excellence. This adult agreemet leads to developing a school-wide Touchstone. It's our layered system, our unique approach, and consistent support from start to finish that develops your "persona", ie your culture that gets the sustainable results you seek.
How Does It Work?
1. Conduct a School Culture Inventory
Conducting a School Culture Inventory and an online survey for both adults and students establishes the baseline of the existing school ‘culture’. The survey report is generated by our assessment partner, The Institute of Excellence and Ethics. This understanding and acceptance of the current state can enable a school to establish the ‘desired state’ and the relevant interventions to close the gap.
2. Developing Shared Beliefs
All research points to the fact that adults have to come together first before students can rally. Ignite will work inclusively with your entire staff to uncover their common beliefs, attitudes, and personal understanding about teaching and learning and the relationship between Success and Achievement.
From this, we will develop a set of shared belief statements that act as the foundation to creating a Staff Compact for Excellence. It is from this, that we can begin to develop our consistent daily actions, practices, and behaviors.
3. Developing a Staff Compact for Excellence
A Staff Compact for Excellence is an action plan that is agreed upon by your entire team of staff. Everyone agrees to work together with consistency and intentionality in doing their Best Work while doing it with Respect and Care. Being their best self! The process of developing the compact gives staff ownership and accountability in their actions and behaviors because they are committed to the benefits of their desired outcomes. This compact aligns with the shared beliefs.
To take this to the next level, we help staff develop a Classroom Compact of Excellence with their students! When classrooms become learning communities driven by students that take ownership of the expectations, they understand what it looks like to do their Best Work and be their Best Selves.
Most agree that when this practice is consistently implemented, with a collective focus on success culture, it will significantly impact classroom behavior and student achievement.
4. Creating a Schoolwide Touchstone
Creating your first school Touchstone or rebooting the one you have
A school-wide touchstone expresses the shared values and aspirations of the school community. Adults and students tend to thrive in environments where expectations are clearly and consistently articulated and reinforced. The touchstone, once developed through collaboration with staff, students and parents serves as a powerful tool that dictates expectations for learning and social behavior.
The Touchstone is created through a step by step, inclusive process, that is driven by staff and student voice. Ignite has years of experience facilitating the layered process through staff leadership teams and student ambassadors. The Power of One initiative can help with this student component. When the binding language of your touchstone comes from all members of your community, it reflects the moral character and performance character of the culture that everyone wants to be apart of.
Once the final touchstone is complete, it is unveiled and presented to your entire building! We have lesson plans to help follow up the conversation in class that can be facilitated by teachers or your student ambassador team.
The last crucial step is to further develop your touchstone and find ways to bring it to life in your classrooms, on the football fields, in the hallways, and in the lunchrooms! We also have lessons created thru our Orientation Program and Spring Transitions System that introduces the touchstone to your incoming class helping all transitioning students to feel a part of a community that supports and challenges them in a positive way.
