Yearlong transitions

Using the same systematic approach to mentorship as our High School initiatives, our Middle School services focus on building positive, supportive relationships and making healthy life choices. Our partnership with experts in ‘Adolescent Health Prevention’ help to provide cutting edge curriculum addressing the issues our youth face on a day-to-day basis. The monthly lessons include making right choices, peer pressure vs. peer influence, cyber bullying, body image, conflict resolution, alcohol, tobacco and drug awareness.

Ignite peer mentors are trained to facilitate lessons with four to five 6th graders. The mentors encourage them to ‘keep it real’ and collaborate to focus on personal development and social challenges. Mentors develop public speaking skills and an understanding of small group dynamics. They are encouraged to share their own life experiences and lessons-learned in a positive way. After a few months, it is not uncommon to hear from students and staff alike, “Something is different around here!”.
