Ignite works with specific classroom
teachers to ‘power up’ the learning process using several
practices, including those identified by Smart & Good
research (www.cortland.edu/character).
Ignite, while embracing the character based approach of
the S&G schools research, helps develop the character
needed to be an excellent student, whether the focus is
Ignite MATH! or Ignite READ! Ignite coaches will work side
by side with classroom teachers to incorporate curricular
strategies and model student collaboration strategies with
relevant learning practices.
Ignite helps model how to create a classroom climate where the teaching and learning policies are co-owned by both the instructor and the participants. Students are lead through a process to determine their own learning environment: one that encourages their ‘best works’. Ignite can help spark students’ desire to explore in a collaborative environment, with strategies that help shift the accountability of learning back to the learner.

Math and Reading
While Ignite MATH! and Ignite READ! both follow the same project based learning premise and methodology, each initiative will focus on specific goals and outcomes. Both involve on-site coaching of classroom teachers sharing practices to implement in the classroom.
